Complainers that MTV no longer is for music your time has come.
The MTV’s “Total Request Live” studio will be dusted off soon, now that a new similar daily live show will be coming to the network in June.
Almost a decade after “TRL” went off-air, MTV president Chris McCarthy told Adweek in an interview that the new afternoon show will tentatively be called “MTV Live.” The network has doubled the size of the infamous Times Square studio that was home to “TRL” from 1998-2008, in preparation for the new daily show.
“That ability to be live, in culture — not responding to it but driving it — is where we belong,” McCarthy said. The show will consist of music and other live elements and will air between three and four hours everyday, debuting June 12 of this year. “We’re just at the beginning of a really exciting time,” McCarthy said. “Now that we have that foundation to build on, the possibilities are endless.”
