The Best and Worst Dressed Stars at the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards

Screen Shot 2016-09-19 at 3.37.20 PM

By: Briana Phipps

The Primetime Emmys brought out the best in television, but also some of the worst in fashion.

With temperatures hitting 90 degress on the red carpet, showing skin was definitely in.

“Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner showed a little too much in a sheer Valentino dress that made her undergarments visible. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Amy Poehler was strangely covered up, an odd choice given the extreme temperatures.

The women of “Modern Family” all missed the style mark: Sofia Vergara was too predictable, Ariel Winter too flashy, and Sarah Hyland too head-scratching.

There were some highlights though: Priyanka Chopra and Kristen Bell topped our best-dressed list in two very unique dresses. Priyanka proved one can wear red on the red carpet in a gorgeous Jason Wu gown (the designer is a favorite of first lady Michelle Obama), while Kristen Bell rocked one of the night’s trends: floral.

We also loved Felicity Huffman and Judith Light’s dresses, both of whom epitomized elegance.

Also on the worst list: “Veep’s” Anna Chlumsky, “Homeland” star Claire Danes, and E! Red Carpet host Giuliana Rancic, who ironically is the longest-running host of the network’s Fashion Police.

‘The People v O.J. Simpson’, and ‘Transparent’ Dominate Emmy’s

Screen Shot 2016-09-19 at 12.05.58 AM

By: Briana Phipps

Tonight the 68th prime-time Emmy’s took place. The event was hosted by late night show host Jimmy Kimmel and he didn’t hold back on the jokes making the night a rather enjoyable night for all.

As you can imagine the overwhelming topics at the award show were that of Diversity and the upcoming Election. Which were proven even more so with the overwhelming award wins for Ryan Murphy’s “The People v O.J. Simpson.” The show took home a total of 5 awards including leading actor and actress in a drama.

While “Transparent” only took home 2 awards, including lead actor in a comedy for Jeffrey Tambor, it was nominated for 16 total. Even though the show may not have won as many awards as it was nominated it definitely held a presence over the night with both Tambor and Laverne Cox encouraging people to hire trans people and give them a chance.

The Best Drama and Comedy awards were given yet again to “Game of Thrones” and “Veep.”

Sarah Paulson Took Marcia Clark as Her Emmys Date

Screen Shot 2016-09-18 at 11.39.52 PM

By: Briana Phipps

Sarah Paulson is poised to win her first Emmy at Sunday’s ceremony, and the People v. O.J. Simpson star brought along a very special date: Marcia Clark.

Paulson played the iconic prosecutor in the FX drama, which scored 22 Emmy nominations this year, including Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Paulson.

The actress and Clark first met when shooting on The People v. O.J. was almost finished. And while meeting the woman portraying you on TV could be a very awkward affair, Clark broke the ice by telling Paulson, “I want to apologize for the hair,” referring to Clark’s notorious short perm during the O.J. Simpson trial.

Since then, the pair developed a mutual admiration for each other, with Clark praising Paulson’s performance and Paulson speaking out against the misogynist treatment Clark faced in the media.

“I do think Marcia was vilified,” Paulson told TV Guide.com. “She was a woman in a man’s world that was not given a lot of respect.”

And though Paulson’s girlfriend Holland Taylor couldn’t be with the actress for the big night (she’s currently working on a Broadway play), Taylor was sending good vibes Paulson’s way.
