Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ Unleashed in Explosive First Teaser

By: Briana Phipps

Black Panther is unleashed in the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Marvel movie.

The trailer for the film debuted during Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday night, as the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers faced off for possibly the final time in the competition.

The footage gives fans the first look at such big stars as Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia) and Michael B. Jordan, as well as, of course, Chadwick Boseman, who plays the titular Black Panther. It also previews a sprawling Wakanada — and the political turmoils inside of the region.

The film follows Boseman’s T’Challa, who was introduced in “Captain America: Civil War” and returns to Wakanda after the death of his father, the king of the nation. “You are a good man with a good heart, and it’s hard for a good man to be a king,” warns a voiceover.

Black Panther reigned supreme in the first poster for the film, which was also released by Marvel on Friday. The first look at the film featured the titular hero perched on his throne in Wakanda.

Boseman, who debuted the character in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War,” plays T’Challa, the king of a fictional, technologically-advanced African nation, who must take over the throne after his father’s murder. When an old adversary (Michael B. Jordan‘s Killmonger) reappears, T’Challa is forced to rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther in order to protect his kingdom and the fate of mankind.

Danai Gurira (Okoye), Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis (Ulysses Klaue), and Sterling K. Brown also star in the film. The superhero tentpole is directed by “Fruitvale Station” and “Creed” filmmaker Ryan Coogler.

“Black Panther” hits theaters on Feb. 16, 2018.

Forest Whitaker to Reprise Role in Disney XD’s ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Season 3

By: Briana Phipps

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” star Forest Whitaker will return to his voice role of Rebel freedom fighter Saw Gerrera in Season 3 of Disney XD’s hit animated series Star Wars Rebels.

Whitaker will voice the character on Star Wars Rebels: Ghosts of Geonosis, Parts One and Two, premiering Saturday, January 7 on Disney XD, according to Variety.

“It’s an incredible honor to have Forest Whitaker play Saw in ‘Rebels,’” says series executive producer Dave Filoni. “Forest did a great job at capturing Saw in a way that is a bit mad, a bit crazed, a bit afraid, but also a bit sympathetic. He sees something coming, but no one will take action before it’s too late.”

Saw Gerrera was first introduced as a guerrilla fighter for his home planet in the TV series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” which aired from 2008-2015.

Created by George Lucas, Saw received training from the Jedi – Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano – and served as an early harbinger of the Rebel Alliance, an assortment of disparate groups coming together to fight for a common cause.

Forest Whitaker’s Broadway Debut ‘Hughie’ To Close Early

It seems as though Forest Whitaker’s Broadway debut Hughie will be short lived.

Whitaker won the Academy Award, British Academy Film Award, Golden Globe Award, National Board of Review Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and various critics groups awards for his performance as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the 2006 film The Last King of Scotland.

The revival of the two-character Eugene O’Neill drama will have its last performance on March 27, producers announced Thursday. The show had been expected to run through June.

The production earned generally strong reviews upon its official opening on February 27th but posted meager advance ticket sales.

For the week ending February 28th, Hughie grossed just $280,732, less than 40 percent of its potential earnings from the Booth Theatre.

Oscar award winning actor Whitaker starred opposite Frank Wood in the one-hour drama set in a Manhattan hotel lobby in the 1920’s. Michael Grandage directed the show.
