Holy cow!! Cree Summers, Ving Rhames and Arthur Burghart voiced cartoons you would have never guessed

Whether you are an adult, teenager, or child, cartoons will never get old. Here are some Black voice-over actors who played some of your  favorite cartoon characters through the years.

Barney/Hip Hop Harry 

Many people grew up watching the famous purple dinosaur, Barney. Not only was he the voice of Barney, but he was also the voice of the legendary Hip-Hop Harry. David Joyner is responsible for many life lessons and some of the best dance battles of all time. Who’s next?



“We’ve got the meat” is something you hear in every Arby’s commercial. The voice behind the magic is Ving Rhames. Next time you’re eating your beef patty melt from Arby’s, make sure to watch reruns of “Lilo & Stitch”  because he’s also played the voice of Cobra Bubbles.

Care Bears Movie: A New Generation

DC fans know how incredible Catwoman is and no matter your age, for many people she’s still a fan fave. Cree Summers played the voice of Lily in the DC Showcase: Catwoman in 2011. She is one of the queens of voice-overs and her catalog speaks for itself. Summers played characters in Rugarats, The Care Bears Movie, Bratz, Atlantis: Milo’s Return, Bambi II, Toy Story 4 and so many more.

Ultimate Spiderman

Arthur Burghart is one of the kings of voice overs and he specializes in playing the villain. His dark deep voice is what makes him perfect for playing the evil villain everyone loves to watch. He is known for his voice as Venom in the Ultimate Spider-Man. Other video games he’s been featured in are World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, Stonekeep and Disney Sports Basketball. 

Black voices matter and are important. It is important that Black voices are heard in cartoons, board meetings, courtrooms, classrooms, and so many other spaces. What’s your favorite cartoon character and who does the voice over? Let us know!
