Contrary to Steve Harvey, John Legend is a fan of his rest!
Harvey caught some criticism in May for saying to be successful, you can’t sleep eight hours a day.
Addressing his Family Feud audience, Harvey said, “that’s a third of your life. It ain’t but 24 hours in a day. You cannot be sleep eight hours a day. You can’t live in L.A. and wake up at 8 o’clock in the morning. It’s 11 o’clock on the east coast. The stock market (has) been open two hours. They already making decisions about your life and your ass was sleep.”
Harvey certainly has achieved quite a bit of success from living that way, hosting Family Feud, a show on Sirius XM, Little Big Shots, and several awards show. But Legend says the no sleep plan isn’t the only way to achieve success.
“I completely disagree. I think you need your rest, especially as a singer, you absolutely need to rest,” said Legend.
Legend was speaking with AfterBuzz TV’s Sayrie at the premiere of Sherman’s Showcase, a musical variety show, when he responded to Harvey’s advice.
“That means you need to work hard, but, you also need to get rest and spend time with your family, and uh, and then find ways to prioritize and work on the things that are most important,” advised Legend. “Working more is not always working smarter, as well, and so, I think, uh, you’ve gotta find balance in your life.”
Now, that doesn’t mean Legend isn’t a fan of hard work. He certainly puts in the time and is plenty busy with his music, judging The Voice, and appearing in other shows and movies. Legend is also the first black man to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony award.
“Hustling is good, but you have to take you care of yourself, because when you don’t rest, you actually end up losing, uh, because you, uh, you’re not prepared, you’re not, uh, you’re not rested up so you can be on your toes, uh, your performance actually goes down when you don’t sleep enough.” said Legend.
