If Disney wants another program for their new streaming app, Khleo Thomas has an idea: bring back Holes!
The Holes star was taking in Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California when he reflected on his days wandering in the desert with Shia LaBeouf.
“The fact that Holes is still a required reading book in certain curriculums, I’m reintroduced to a new generation every single year and as we’ve seen, that film has transcended generations already, and it just has a timeless story, people love the characters,” said Thomas told Black Hollywood Live’s Chae’ Jones. “Zero might just live on forever and I’m cool with that.”
The original movie, which came out in 2003, is still a fan favorite. Even 16 years later, Thomas found someone dressed as his iconic character at this years’ expo!
“It really blew my mind” exclaimed Thomas. “Someone gave me a heads up that there was a, a little girl walking around as Zero, we found her, and it was a great interaction between us.”
So with fans still wanting more, Thomas wants to give it to them.
“What would Zero be doing now?” asked Thomas. “All that money, all that treasure,” hinting at what a sequel could be about. “I found moms. I should be using all that money for something to go do in the world now. So I don’t know, we may have to, you know, go sit down and write a script about that actually.”
Disney recently announced it’s bringing back another early favorite in Lizzie McGuire, with Hilary Duff set to reprise her role, with McGuire now being a 30-year-old millennial finding her way in New York City.
“There’s a lot of nostalgia going right now, but I agree with you, like, people may be curious about certain stories and I’m always up to bring him back,” said Thomas.
Disney+ is set to launch in November with new series on The Mandalorian, Obi Wan, and Marvel superheroes leading the initial push.
