The most exciting and honoring awards ceremony that celebrates black culture took place this past weekend. Many awards were given to artists that strived for black excellence in music, and we are here to highlight all of them. With a great host, such as comedian and actor Amanda Seales, it almost felt like we were all watching the real, full fledged BET Awards!

Album of the Year

Probably one of the most successful new artists, Roddy Rich came out of the gate running and has definitely kept a great stride putting out hits after hits. With songs like Ballin, and The Box, there was no other option but to award him with album of the year.

Megan Thee Stallion no doubt has had one of the most wild and successful careers in terms of ‘rap capturing’ the hearts of all the hot girls waiting to come out for the summer. With the release of her album “Suga,” the world went crazy from songs like “Captain Hook” and now viral Tik Tok song, “Savage.” It was no surprise that she won the award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist.

The queen of body positivity, Lizzo won the award for best Pop Artist, and it is no surprise with tracks like “Juice” and “Truth Hurts.” This win was definitely a well deserved one!

Young Stars Award

Queen of “Blackish” and young movie producer, Marsai Martin was winning from the very beginning. Being such a young star that is already writing, producing and leading in her own films, Marsai Martin is a icon in her own rights and is most definitely a young star!

Best Male Hip Hop Artist

Dababy took the world by storm with recent singles such as “Bop” and “Rockstar,” and with a unique style and unprecedented flows, it was no surprise that he won best male hip hop artist.

Best Actor

A very deserving Micheal B. Jordan won the award for best actor. With a stunning performance in the critically acclaimed “Just Mercy,” it would have been a snub if this phenomenal actor didn’t win the award.

With all that has been going on in the world, the BET Awards has been a good time for the African American community to rally up and soak in some more black excellence.
