BHL Quarantine Music Discovery: Trina

Music is the universal language. It can change your mood or express exactly how you’re feeling. Music may be the emotional antidote for what we are dealing with now. Black Hollywood Live empathizes and will continue to seek and ‘discover’ new artists to help, and sometimes artists we already love, nourishing us with fresh new sounds.

Welcome back to another week of Quarantine Music Discovery, and this week we are highlighting the Baddest B, Trina!

Trinia is the baddest in the game and has been for the past 20 years but does not ever seem to get the recognition she deserves. Trina dropped her debut album, Da Baddest B***h at the age of 21 in 2000. Congratulations Trina on the 20th anniversary on her first album.

Trina comes from a well known family in Miami.  Her Mom owned a very popular hair salon and her step-father owned a store on the same block which put Trina on a fast track for success. Trina always had a ‘Boss’ like mentally, as she fell into the rap game unintentionally.

Trina originally wanted to sell real estate, but when Trick Daddy asked her to ‘talk’ on his song “Nann”, the rest was history. When her phone started ringing off the hook from labels to sign her, is when she started taking the rap game seriously.

Now tell me who else can get signed to Atlantic records, after being featured on one song? Only the Baddest in the game. When you really listen to the “Nann” track, Trina’s energy and confidence comes off, as if she had been in the game for 10 years, mind you she did that verse as a favor with no intentions of being a rapper.

One of the reasons why Trina is so underrated is because people underestimate her staying power. Trina has been active in the music industry for 20 years, with 13 albums, collaborating with other top artists like; Trey Songz, Missy Elliott, Lil Wanye, Monica Kelly Price, Gucci Mane and many more. That is no easy feat!

Trina is raw, honest and the definition of black girl magic, not afraid to go toe to toe with the best of the best male rappers. It’s important to give talented people their flowers while they are still able to receive them, so this is us giving Trina her flowers!

She is a true boss and owns Rockstar Music Group and has all females signed to her label.  She works hard and plays even harder. Trina should one hundred percent be topping the charts with all her hits. Every girl boss should have Trina on their playlist as she owns her position as a woman and doesn’t back down. We could all use some of Trina’s mega confidence.

Next time you feel your black girl magic being taken away, turn on some Trina and take back control with her timeless hits!

A short playlist of this megastar can be found on Spotify HERE. Did we miss any of your favorite songs from Trina? What other collaborations has she done that you’ve enjoyed? Let us know in the comment section below.
